Grounds Arborist Lead: Job Skills Training

Description:

You will learn arboriculture practices related to tree care and other department job tasks. All Grounds employees also have annual refresher training. Opportunities include in-person equipment training for bucket trucks, climbing gear, end loaders, skid steers, woodchipper, stump grinder, and chainsaws.

As a UW Grounds Arborist Lead, we will set up training and time for you to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License and CDL. You will also learn about role-specific skills and tasks. Some examples include:

SPRING

  • Mulching
  • Weed control
  • Planting

SUMMER

  • Watering
  • Scouting for Pests and Diseases
  • Tree injections

FALL

  • Pruning
  • Leaf management

WINTER

  • Snow Removal
  • Equipment Use and Maintenance

 

Arborist Lead Workers also

  • Work closely with Supervisors on in-field training, including crew specific equipment, modeling proper techniques, and giving feedback.
  • Coordinate projects such as tree removal and storm damage clean up. You will learn more about project management from your Supervisor.
  • Track and update inventories (record keeping).
