You will learn arboriculture practices related to tree care and other department job tasks. All Grounds employees also have annual refresher training. Opportunities include in-person equipment training for bucket trucks, climbing gear, end loaders, skid steers, woodchipper, stump grinder, and chainsaws.
As a UW Grounds Arborist Lead, we will set up training and time for you to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License and CDL. You will also learn about role-specific skills and tasks. Some examples include:

- Scouting for Pests and Diseases

- Pruning
- Leaf management

- Snow Removal
- Equipment Use and Maintenance
Arborist Lead Workers also
- Work closely with Supervisors on in-field training, including crew specific equipment, modeling proper techniques, and giving feedback.
- Coordinate projects such as tree removal and storm damage clean up. You will learn more about project management from your Supervisor.
