Description:

This module provides an overview of construction related struck by and caught in between hazards, fall protection and basic electrical safety. Falls, struck-by, caught in or stuck between and/or electrical hazards are the top 4 fatality causing events in the workplace. This module is intended to educate employees in the industry to these specific hazards so they can prepare for, avoid and/or ultimately minimize or eliminate the hazards from the workplace.

First Aid

Description:

The purpose of this module is to help participants identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care. It teaches skills that participants need to know in order to provide immediate care of a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced medical care arrives.

Description:

This module provides fundamental information regarding the history of fire prevention, use of fire codes, identification and correction of fire hazards, and the relationships of fire prevention with built-in fire protection systems, fire investigation, and fire and life safety education.

Fire Prevention

Description:

This module provides the student with an understanding of fire prevention and fire safety education programs. Participants are instructed on both fire prevention and fire safety education, application of the principles of life safety in buildings and how these principles provide the foundation for fire prevention.

Fall Protection

Description:

Module topics include principles of fall arrest, restraint and positioning (ARP) to prevent the occurrence of a fall. Instruction includes selection of the applicable fall prevention or protection components; limitations of fall arrest and prevention systems and the regulations regarding fall protection. Participate in demonstrating the inspection and use of fall protection equipment including the procedure to implement a fall prevention, protection and/or rescue plan for assigned activities.

Excavation and Soil Mechanics

Description:

This module covers the safety and health aspects of excavation and trenching. Course topics include practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and un-shored slopes and walls of excavations, introduction of various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic), soil classification, and use of protective systems. Testing methods are demonstrated and participants participate in workshops in the use of instruments such as penetrometers, torvane shears, and engineering rods. Upon course completion participants will have the ability to assess the associated hazards and utilize soil testing methods to classify soil types, determine protective systems for excavation operations and training requirements.

Evacuation and Emergency Planning

Description:

This module covers OSHA requirements for emergency action and fire protection plans. Module topics include purpose and requirements of emergency action and fire prevention plans, elements of emergency evacuation plans, and features of design and maintenance of emergency exit routes. Participants will participate in workshops pertaining to the development of emergency action plans. Upon module completion participants will have the ability to implement an emergency action plan, recognize violations of OSHA exit route requirements, determine whether their department requires an emergency action plan; implement workplace emergency action and fire protection plans.

Ergonomics

Description:

Knowing ergonomic applications in the work place and understanding terminology used by safety regulators will help you look at the way you use your body to work and play in a different way. If you work in an office, on a construction site, or behind a counter serving customers, the principles of ergonomics presented in this module will improve your way of life. Instruction includes employer regulatory requirements and how important it is to follow an Ergonomic Work Plan.

Electrical Safety NFPA 70E

Description:

This module covers Electrical Standards and the hazards associated with electrical installations and equipment. Module topics include single and three- phase electrical systems, cord and plug connected and fixed equipment, grounding, ground fault circuit interrupters, and safety-related work practices. Emphasis is placed on electrical hazard recognition, standards, policies, procedures and applicable portions of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Upon module completion participants will have the ability to understand the severity of electrical current on the human body, recognize and evaluate actual and potential electrical hazards, determine hazard abatement measures, and understand the proper use of electrical testing and electrical protective equipment. Participants of this module will have had advanced training and/or experience in an electrical discipline. In addition, this module is in part a requirement by the NFPA 70E as a refresher module. The how to perform hazard identification and risk assessment analysis will be emphasized. Advanced electrical safety topics will be reviewed and discussed.

Electrical Protective Equipment

Description:

Electrical Protective Equipment is designed to isolate an employee from energized systems, equipment and/or machines. It has specific intended uses and must be issued, worn and maintained while in service by employees with electrical responsibilities. Module Objective: When to use electrical protective equipment; demonstration and discussion of the available styles, types and classifications of electrical protective equipment; how to select, complete field inspections and maintain electrical protective equipment while in active service.

Control of Hazardous Energy aka Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

Description:

Module topics include types of hazardous energy, detecting hazardous conditions, implementing control measures as they relate to the control of hazardous energy, developing and implementing energy control programs including written isolation procedures, training of authorized; affected employees, and periodic audit of energy control procedures using the OSHA Control of Hazardous Energy Standard. Upon module completion the student will have the ability to explain the importance of energy control programs, procedures, training, audits and methods of controlling hazardous energy.

Confined Space Entry

Description:

Module topics include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, use of instrumentation to evaluate atmospheric hazards, ventilation techniques, development and implementation of a confined space program, proper signage, and training requirements. This module features workshops on permit entry classification, instrumentation, and program development. Upon module completion, participants will have the ability to identify permit and non-permit required confined spaces, reference the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard, conduct atmospheric testing, and implement a permit-required confined space program.

Audience

For those who are at risk of exposure to the safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry.

Competent Person

Description:

This module provides the skill set necessary for an employer to designate an employee as a competent person in an applicable activity or discipline.

Audience

A “competent person” designation is required within some activates and disciplines to ensure activities are monitored for proper staging and completed safely. The definition of a competent person as “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”

Boiler Operation Safety

Description:

This module provides the basic knowledge to safely operate and maintain boiler systems. Instruction includes the fundamentals of boiler operation and maintenance. Covers steam, feed water, fuel, and draft systems. Includes boiler water treatment and hot water heating systems. Introduces safe mechanical operating procedures used in the industry. Objectives: Understand the basic concepts of steam, hot water, feed water, fuel, and draft systems. Understand the basic boiler cycle and boiler water chemistry. Know how to use the tools and equipment of the trade. Describe and demonstrate the fundamentals of safe boiler operation and maintenance.

Blood Borne Pathogens

Description:

The module teaches how blood borne pathogens are spread, how to avoid exposure and what to do if exposed to infectious material. This module is one of the requirements of the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard. After taking this module, students should talk with their employer about their workplace’s specific policies and procedures.

Asbestos Awareness

Description:

This training consists of information regarding asbestos and its various uses and forms. Training also includes information on the health effects associated with asbestos exposure. This module includes available information concerning the locations of thermal systems insulation and surfacing ACM/PACM, and asbestos containing flooring material, or flooring material where the absence of asbestos has not yet been certified; and instruction in recognition of damage, deterioration, and delamination of ACM.

Audience

Required and very important instruction for employees whose work activities may contact asbestos containing material (ACM) or presumed asbestos-containing material (PACM) but do not disturb the ACM or PACM during their work activities.

Aerial Lifts

Description:

To qualify operators in the safe operation of aerial lifts. Trainees will receive instruction on aerial lift equipment. This program is not make or model specific and covers concepts common to all types of aerial lifts. Each trainee’s knowledge and demonstrated skills in all aspects of the program are evaluated prior to full qualification.

AED/CPR

Description:

This module focuses on sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, airway obstruction, CPR, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Program content is based on the American Heart Association Guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiac care (ECC).

Audience

For non-professional responders required to have CPR and AED knowledge or for those who simply want to help in an emergency, the CPR and AED for the workplace program teaches the skills to respond in a cardiac emergency.
