Matt Collins named new Director of Capital Projects

Matt Collins

Following his recent tenure co-managing the unit and a comprehensive selection process, Matt Collins has been appointed the Director of Capital Projects. Ginny Routhe, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Capital Project Delivery, announced the appointment. Matt’s first day in the role was October 6.

“Matt’s extensive experience and deep understanding of owner’s project representation and team leadership make him the ideal person to take on this crucial role,” Ginny said. His recent experience co-managing the Capital Projects unit has fully prepared him for this new leadership position, and we are confident he will continue to drive efficiencies and track key performance indicators for our critical projects.”

Ginny said that in Matt’s new role he will play a crucial leadership role overseeing a team of capital project managers, coordinators, construction field reps, and supervisors. She added his responsibilities will include developing and managing department budgets, liaising with internal stakeholder groups to align project objectives with strategic priorities, and developing policies and procedures for the Capital Projects department. He will also be responsible for accurate and regular project status reporting while improving efficiencies and monitoring key performance indicators for critical capital and strategic projects.

“This is a new position for FP&M, but one that has been in the works for quite some time, as our capital project delivery portfolio has grown substantially over the last few years to 427 capital projects totaling over $6 Billion in our 6-year Capital Development Plan,” Ginny said.

In reflecting on his new position, Matt expressed both excitement and readiness for the tasks ahead.

“I am honored to step into this role, and I am looking forward to leading our talented Project Manager team and collaborating with our FP&M and campus partners to effectively deliver capital projects,” Matt said. “The number of projects has significantly grown and become more complex in the past few years, so we have the challenge of improving or inventing processes to meet that demand. Hopefully I can be an encouraging influence on the growing atmosphere of teamwork within FP&M.”

Matt recently led the unit alongside Randi Smith and Bob Bucci. Ginny expressed deep appreciation for their contributions during this time.

“Their dedication and collaboration have been instrumental in maintaining our momentum and ensuring a seamless transition,” Ginny said. “We greatly appreciate their hard work and commitment to our team’s success.”
