Staff members from Physical Plant and Transportation Services shared recent accomplishments, improvements and innovations at the annual Showcase event April 17. Featuring presentations, flash talks, and breakout sessions, Showcase is a campuswide forum for share best practices, learn from others at UW–Madison, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. FP&M was well-represented:
- Paige Taft presented a poster called A Clear View of a Complex Campus: Improving Customer Service through Mapping Geovisualization that outlined Physical Plant’s use of Geographic Information System
(GIS) to provide clear, accurate and user-friendly maps that has increased cross-campus collaboration. Paige also spoke about this project in a poster flash talk.

- David Winston and Dar Ward presented You Can Count On Me: Mobile data collection for bicycle parking, a poster that showed how Transportation Services’ GIS team partnered with Commuter Solutions to integrate GIS mapping with GPS coordinates to record bike parking habits over time.
- In partnership with the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the Office of Sustainability presented three posters: Green Office Certification Program, Sustainability Research Hub: Catalyzing Collaboration to Reach New Goals, and Green Events: Expanding Sustainability Recognition on Campus.

Additionally, Digital Publishing and Printing Services created a poster highlighting their relocation to their Stoughton Road location. The poster listed many benefits and positive changes that have been realized since their move three years ago — facilitated by FP&M staff!
Later that day, three EH&S teams won Administrative Improvement Awards, due to their commitment to administrative excellence. Read more.
