February: American Heart Month

Throughout the month of February Americans everywhere are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease. Check out the resources below to find out how to keep your heart healthy, and reduce the risks of heart attacks and strokes.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:

  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Watch your weight
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation
  • Get active and eat healthy
