At FP&M, ongoing learning and development helps our organization and people succeed. There are many ways to grow professionally – learning from peers, challenging assignments, classes, conferences, and professional organizations. Excellent options to develop skills are offered through classes at no cost through at UW-Madison, focusing on personal leadership, interpersonal skills, project management, navigating change, team dynamics, and writing skills.
Courses are also available through UW-Madison’s Interdisciplinary Professional Programs, Continuing Studies, the School of Business or professional conferences or memberships – many of which have a cost.
If there is a cost or travel involved, it is necessary to get pre-approval by submitting a FP&M Professional Development & Travel Request form.
There are four steps to get pre-approved for professional development that has a cost or travel – and it begins with talking to your supervisor and other approvers to ensure it fits within the framework of skill development, equitable access and budget.
There have been recent updates to the Travel and Reimbursement policies related to vehicle use (personal, fleet, rental), per diem reimbursements, and air travel. Please take time to read these updates and reach out to your department Travel Coordinator for help before booking any travel.
