Workplace Computer Basics: 2024 wrap-up and what’s next!

2024 Computer Basics Recap 

This year, 40 employees from various departments learned new digital skills through FP&M’s Workplace Computer Basics sessions! 155 assessments helped employees build their computer literacy skills. 

Upcoming Classes 

In case you missed the first ones, more classes will be taking place January 30 through March 6, 2025! There will be two types of classes: Level 1 and Essential Software Skills. Level 1 is intended to teach basic computer skills, such as Computer Hardware basics, internet basics, using UW Email and more. For those with some level of computer experience, the Essential Software Skills class will teach an expansion of skills within Microsoft programs and more. 

Both classes will take place each Thursday between Jan. 30 and March 6 in the Animal Sciences Lab Rm. 204. The Level 1 class will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and The Essential Software Skills class will be from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Sign up now by contacting Alex Zewde at alex.zewde@wisc.edu and take your skills to the next level!

WHAT: self-paced assessments and video tutorials to learn basic digital literacy skills (basic computer skills, internet basics, using email, Word Basics, Excel Basics, Powerpoint Basics, Google docs, Social Media, Information Literacy)
WHO: free for FP&M employees
HOW:

  1. Visit www.digitalliteracyassessment.org in a browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
  2. Click the green Try an Assessment Now button

    Find and click this button on the Northstar webpage and follow the instructions noted here to log in as an FP&M employee.
  3. Enter FP&M’s 4-digit location PIN: 68FN
    and click Go
  4. Take as many of the 15 assessments as you would like. Each one takes 10-15 minutes and will give you personalized practice based on your answers.  You can log in and continue to learn anytime!
