Silvie Marlette appointed Interim Director of Operations and Maintenance as recruitment process continues

Silvie Marlette will serve as the Interim Director of Operations and Maintenance following the retirement of current director Craig Mayer. Her appointment was announced earlier this week by Jim Bogan, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Physical Plant.

“Silvie has served with distinction for over 12 years in Physical Plant and has my full confidence in taking on this interim role,” Jim said.

Jim noted that Silvie, who holds a master’s degree in architecture, brings extensive technical design and construction knowledge as well as deep institutional experience to the role. Her expertise with the work order management system and UW-Madison business processes, along with her effective communication of property claims across Physical Plant, FP&M, and campus divisions, highlights her strong leadership foundation, Jim said.

The application deadline for the permanent position closed on July 29, and a screening committee has begun reviewing submissions. Once finalists are selected, stakeholder sessions will be scheduled, likely in early September. Silvie will take on the role starting on Aug. 9 and serve until Nov. 30, or until the permanent recruitment process has ended.

“I would like to personally recognize and thank Craig for his exceptional work and commitment, which has made a lasting impact on our organization,” Jim said. “He has big shoes to fill. “Between now and Craig’s last day, Silvie will receive his advice and guidance, and will also be involved in onboarding the successful applicant.”
