Jeff Selinske and Steve Nampel
Shout-Out to Jeff Selinske and Steve Nampel. Jeff and Steve reinsulated and jacketed 200′ of chilled water piping at Sterling Hall.
Installing pipe insulation correctly can lead to greater operating efficiencies – which, in turn, can lead to reduced operating costs.
Enjoy the before and after pictures.

Customer Service, DDC, Maintenance Mechanic, and Steamfitter Shop staff
A HUGE THANK YOU to Customer Service, DDC, Maintenance Mechanic, and Steamfitter Shop staff for managing over 150 low limit alarms that occurred between Friday, December 23, and Monday, December 26.
This team entered work orders, diagnosed issues, reset units, revisited units that alarmed again, and again, and worked together as a team to ensure there was coverage and that these buildings were running through the long weekend. Staff covered their assigned areas and were willing to go above and beyond their typical job duties and work hours to ensure all buildings were running. Thank you all for your efforts, dedication, and flexibility!

Monte Haufle, Edward Corcoran, Physical Plant Tradespeople/Project Delivery/Facilities Management/O&M, EH&S Radiation Safety
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the team who stepped up to accomplish a remarkable feat in such a compressed timeline with no advanced notice. We were approached by GE to see if we could get a one-of-a-kind CT scanner installed at UW to obtain images in advance of a major international conference. I was skeptical that this was achievable…I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the support we received from all the tradespeople at UW. The success of this project would not have been possible without their outstanding efforts.
Monte was the manager of this project. I dealt mostly with him during this process. Here is an excerpt from an email that I sent him at one point during the project:
“Monte: You have been so helpful with all of this. I really appreciate how effective you have been throughout this whole process. And, I do understand what a huge, unexpected, thorn in your side this has been. So, thank you for rising to the occasion and exceeding our expectations. I really appreciate all that you are doing. I can honestly say that we would be nowhere near where we are with this project without your outstanding initiative and leadership. And, to know that you are managing this so well in light of the fact that you also are managing other major projects including the WIMR MRI project and the Waisman MRI project (and whatever else you have going on) is truly remarkable.”
-Chair Dr. Tom Grist, Department of Radiology, and Professor Frank R. Korosec, Ph.D., Department of Radiology
An additional thank-you to the Radiation Safety staff at EH&S, who performed standard duties for a new CT — by registering the unit with and submitting shielding plans for approval from Wisconsin DHS Radiation Protection, by performing the required post-installation shielding verification survey, and by reviewing and approving the IRB study allowing the machine to be used on humans for research purposes.
